How to install Second Exchange Server

We can have many Exchange servers for many reasons like high availability, frontend and Backend architecture etc. here we are going to discus about how to install second Exchange server where already an Exchange server in present in SYSADMIN.COM domain

Preparing the Second Exchange Server

Following are the important steps to consider before installing the second Exchange server

1. Check the hardware prerequisites

2. Check the Computer Name and check the second computer added to the domain

3. Assign a particular user from AD to Manage the Exchange Server

4. Install the prerequisites to install Exchange Server

5. Install the second Exchange Server

Step by step procedure to install the second Exchange Server

Check the hardware prerequisites

Check the second computer is having the enough Hardware components to install Exchange Server. After checking hardware prerequisites install windows 2003 server operating system.

Check the Computer Name and check the second computer added to the domain

Important things to Note

· Computer Name – have a standard name for naming computer

· Network setting – assign an IP with the same segment and configure the DNS

· Add the computer to the Domain

· Before restarting the computer check and install all the windows updates

Assign a particular user from AD to Manage the Exchange Server

It’s a good practice to assign a second user with particular permissions instead of administering by Administrator Account.

· Create a New User name in AD

· Assign the following permission – Enterprise Admin, Schema Admin and Domain Admin

· Make the user account as a Local Administrator on the PC

Install the prerequisites to install Exchange Server

Check the following prerequisites are installed on the second computer

· ASP.Net

· IIS

· SMTP

· NNTP

· WWW

Before starting the installation

Keep in mind, you do not need to run /forestprep and /domainprep for additional installations of Exchange Server, unless you are installing it into a new domain that was not existent at the time that Exchange Server was installed initially.

Install the second Exchange Server

1. Start the installation by double clicking the setup file. On the introduction page select Exchange Deployment Tools

2. On the welcome page select Install Exchange 2003 on additional servers

3. Select Run Setup now to start the installation

4. On the warning page, select don’t display this message again and click continue

5. On the welcome page click next

image

6. On the license agreement page select I agree and click Next

image

7. On the components selection page, check the required services are selected to install and click Next

image

8. on the license agreement page, select I agree and click next

image

9. Review the installation summary and click Next to continue the installation

10. Wait for 10 min to get finish the installation of second exchange server’

11. On the final installation page, click finish to finish the installation

image

Click yes to restart the server to finish the installation

After restarting the computer, Login to Domain controller where I install the first exchange server. Under the first administrative Group-> Servers, you can find the second exchange server here.

Note: If you create an addition Administrative before the second exchange server installation, you will be prompted to select in which administrative group you want to place the second server .
